This web application compares the Long term Average NDVI with the NDVI for a date range selected by a user. The area of interest is a section in the southern part of Somalia identified as part of the Programme for Sustainable Charcoal Production and Alternative Livelihoods (PROSCAL).

Here is a brief explannation of how the application works:

1. Calculates the Long term average (LTA) NDVI from 2000 to 2009 using the MODIS images. The mean NDVI is for only the months of January to March.

2. The user then selects the period to compare the NDVI with the LTA. Negative values displayed by color brown indicate a reduction in NDVI compared to the LTA. The green shows areas that have an increase in NDVI compared to the LTA.

3. Overlaying this data with the charcoal sites gives an insight of the effects of charcoal burning in the area of interest.
